Postmodern Link of the Day and other things
This link is fantastic, it is an automatic essay generator that randomly creates post-modern topic essays: The Postmodernism Generator: Communications from Elsewhere
Addressing the blog question posed by the mysterious Baby Livey:
I believe blogging is both a generational syndrome and a sign of the times.
As a syndrome, the act of blogging is representative of a generation that is over exposed to various forms of expression via the internet and random New Media forms. I think Blogging is a collective reaction to these forms as well as a means to cope with technical super stimulation. Perhaps, blogging is representative of a generational voice.
I think a "sign of the times" is an equally adequate description. Can it be both?
Everyone's thoughts?

Love the link... I always suspected that sort of essay (i.e., overeducated deconstructionist flibbety jibbety) could be built using scissors and glue. Now we have our proof.
As for blogging as "generational" or "sign of the times"... I'll call you back in 33 years and tell you if the next generation has inherited blogging from this one.
A less flip answer is that every new technology (whether its concrete, the radio, microwaves, or the internet) brings with it a rush of excitement that spills over into other areas. There is a period when people believe that the new technology, whatever it is, will solve all their problems. Concrete battleships were a fine example of mis-applied technology.
But it's too soon to see whether blogging is really "the new journalism" or just "the new journaling." So for now, I guess I have to say "sign of the times."
See there, didn't you prefer the short answer?

There's also a darker side to 'blogging which is seen but rarely spoken about.
We've all seen it when we hit the 'Next Blog ยป' button.
We live in a strange, changeable and volatile time, when information is cheap and accessible, but accuracy and trueness is at a premium...
